City of Mont Belvieu - Parks and Recreation Intern


Overview of Organization

The Mont Belvieu Parks and Recreation Department is responsible for the direction, supervision, operation and maintenance of four parks (The City Park, Joe Matthews Park, A. B. Davis Park and Cherry Point Park which are all located on 86 acres). The department is responsible for mowing the City’s medians, roadsides, ditches, parks and the grounds of City Hall.  The Department is also responsible for the City’s recreation programs and related facilities. In addition to daily and seasonal maintenance operations, the Parks and Recreation Department sponsors, with volunteer support, many special events such as July 4th, Christmas in the City, and the Annual Easter Egg Hunt. The Department also oversees the Seniors Program and the Museum.

Intern Responsibilities

Short overview of my tasks preformed over the summer:

  • Plan, schedule, implement and evaluate events and programs. Maintained regular contact with the public, city employees, civic groups, local businesses, and potential program sponsors
  • Update the Parks and Recreation department’s web page as well as design and produce printed media such as brochures, newsletters and flyers; Assist in the research and development of marketing and media events as well as update social media sites; Write press releases for local media outlets
  • Develop and implement recreational programs and community events; Work within budgetary constraints; Coordinate with Eagle Pointe Recreation Complex to avoid duplication of services; Work with community groups and park user groups. Critical team member working on assignments that are important to the success of our recreation programs.

     Requirements for this job:
  • A valid Texas driver’s license and good driving record is required in addition to the ability to pass a drug test and job related doctor’s physical.
  • Current enrollment is required in an accredited college or university with a degree plan on file for Parks Administration or similar field and a GPA of 3.0 or above.
